Weekly Bulletin
SUNDAY MASS April 26, 2009

Dear Jesus,
through bread and wine at the Last Supper,
and by your holy word,
you gave the Eucharist to your church.
You transformed common food and drink
into your Body and Blood,
and offered us a share in your life
in ways we still cannot fully understand.
Grant now that these young people will always
treasure the gift they have in you.
Give them the grace to be faithful to you
and to remain in communion with your church.
As they receive their first Communion,
the Bread of Life and Cup of Salvation,
make them always aware of the hope
they have for eternal life in you.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR FIRST EUCHARIST CANDIDATES receiving their First Communion today. Congratulations to all of the Parents who have prepared their children for this Holy Sacrament.
You have taught your children the importance of community by your commitment to the Church and the Community of St. Patrick.
May the Lord Bless You and Your family!

IN SYMPATHY
Please remember in your prayers, Barb Dietz the mother of Jason Dietz from our parish. May we remember those families and friends who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith. May they enjoy the fullness of God’s love.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND
In the midst of the Great Depression, Catholic Charities was founded to respond to those in crisis. For 76 years in Oregon, we have addressed the needs of children, families, elderly, the homeless, and the downtrodden. Today, the challenge is as great to meet these needs. The numbers turning to Catholic Charities for help is unprecedented. Please give generously to the Catholic Charities 2009 Annual Campaign today!
NO TUESDAY EVENING MASS
There will be no Mass on Tuesday, April 28 so Fr. John can attend the Renovation Preparation Team meeting that evening.
PARISH OFFICE CLOSED WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29
The Parish Office will be closed on Wednesday, April 29 to allow the staff to attend an Archdiocesan parish Ministries Conference.
Reflecting the Gospel

Despite the reports of the two Emmaus disciples and other eyewitnesses as well, when Jesus appeared to the gathered disciples they “were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost”. Similar to last Sunday with Thomas, Jesus invites the disciples to “Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.” “Look. . .touch. . .see.” How concretely Jesus relates to the disciples. How understanding! How quickly their terror was changed to incredulous joy! How amazed they were as this risen One ate before them the “piece of baked fish.” It is as though Jesus is doing everything possible to help the disciples understand how real this new life of resurrection is. Then Jesus brings it home to the disciples in specific terms to which human beings can readily relate. His death and resurrection were not isolated events only in the life of Jesus; they have meaning for all Jesus’ disciples. The reality of his passing over from death to life is carried forward by those who witness to these things: repentance and forgiveness of sins. It is perhaps surprising that repentance and forgiveness figure so prominently in all three readings assigned to this Third Sunday of Easter. The readings suggest to us that we, unlike the disciples to whom Jesus appeared after the resurrection, cannot “Look. . .touch. . .see.” But Jesus gives us another and just as concrete a means to come to belief in the new life of resurrection. For repentance and forgiveness are themselves encounters with the risen Lord, an invitation to greater belief, and an experience of our own resurrection. In this Sunday’s gospel, Jesus invites all the disciples to do what he had invited Thomas to do, “Touch me,” so that they might come to believe in his resurrection. This belief, however, is not passive. Our belief in the risen Lord is made visible when we “preach in his name” the kind of repentance leading to the new life of forgiveness. We “touch” Jesus today when we repent of our sins and forgive others-an encounter with this same risen Lord that makes him present in our world today. Jesus “was made known” in the breaking of the bread and in repentance and forgiveness. This is risen life: “You are forgiven.” This is our witness to the resurrection: “I forgive you.”
